Filip Dankowski immigrated as a young boy with his parents from Poland to Australia; and with them came Filip's love of food - eating it, creating it and enjoying it!

Over the years, Filip has found his passion for baking cakes and desserts which, in his words "is reminiscent of spending time in the kitchen with my Grandmother back in Poland... it reminds me of her big hugs."

 

Experimenting and adding his own creative twist to an old classic, Filip first created and shared his signature Classic Baked Cheesecake. The creamy, delicious cake was first dismissed as "yet another standard cheesecake" UNTIL people started tasting it! And then? Well, it fast became a favourite amongst family, friends and the local community, with people commissioning Filip to bake his cheesecake and other specialty cakes for their family get-togethers and special occasions.

 

And so, the"Ugly Duckling Caterer“ was born. The name pays homage to the old Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, "The Ugly Duckling"... as the story goes, the Ugly Duckling is dismissed for their looks and is later loved and adored as they surprisingly develop into a glorious swan.  Our cakes have followed the same journey... whilst they may not be the prettiest or have all the fancy frills of other cakes, once you taste them, you will discover that they are indeed, the most beautiful cakes in Brisbane!

 

The Ugly Duckling Caterer now boasts a repertoir of ten spectacular and glorious cakes, individually made to order. They are quite simply, delicious and proudly made using carefully selected local and ethically sourced ingredients.
